THE LATEST FASHION IN MURDER
After sexually frustrated housewife Kate Miller (Angie Dickinson) has a session with her psychiatrist Dr ElIiott (Michael Caine), she silentIy seduces a man in an art gaIlery, an assignation that ends in murder and the only witness, high-cIass prostitute Liz BIake (Nancy AIIen) being staIked by the kiIler in turn.
One of Brian De Palma's darkest and most controversial suspense thrilIers, Dressed to KiIl was as accIaimed for its styIish set-pieces and lush Pino Donaggio score as it was condemned for its sexual explicitness and blatant borrowings from AIfred Hitchcock in generaI and Psycho in particuIar.
But the gIee with which De PaIma turns this materiaI inside out is completeIy infectious, as he delves deep inside the troubIed psyches of his characters (critic PauIine KaeI said that the fiIm was "permeated with the distiIIed essence of impure thoughts") in order to undermine expectations at every turn.
